This recipe has been adapted from Jamie Oliver-“Great Britain Recipes”. It’s just a fantastic recipe for when you need to whip up something tasty for an impromptu brunch, or to satisfy nagging kids! It takes about an hour from woe to go.

You will need:

500 g flour
1 tsp sugar
1 g sachet (or dsp) yeast
A good pinch baking soda,
2 tsp salt
600 ml tepid water
Vegetable oil

Pre-heat oven to 170, and grease a 12-hole muffin tin with the oil.
Place all other ingredients in a bowl and add 600 ml tepid water.
Whisk, until thoroughly mixed, then let the mixture stand for 15 minutes, it needs to be a spoonable, sticky, bubbling consistency.
Cook for about 40 minutes, until the crumpies are risen and golden. Like muffins, they will spring back when gently pushed on the top.

Add your flare!

You can use this base recipe and add any combination you want. From savoury - sundried tomato, herbs, cheese... to sweet - Fig and almond, walnuts and raisons ... options are endless! Add the extra flavours in at the same time as all the other dry ingredients.

These taste so good fresh out of the oven with a generous layer of butter, yum.
